Project Proposal Process

Subject: Hi guys

I checked my email a second ago and realized that being sick really bites..
Sorry I am not up with every thing..
I am available at 1:00pm and 7:00pm but not 4:00pm.

Since we can't post on the forum here are my notes from wensday.

Maureen- Art/Communication/music
Lorraine- Religion/ world religions
Lance- Art/Music
Daniel- He said art music but was very interested in tech.
Alicia- Ancient Arcitecture and evolution.

We talked alot about how many sacred places had all of our interests in
common..
We then said we would look in to some aspect of sacred places and religions.
-------------------------
My ideas
When I talked to Ms. S after school and see mentioned that the ancient
religions and places that are sacred to people have one thing in common..
making themselves immortal.. I thought about that yesterday and think she was
on to something. Besides that some people believe certain places were built
to leave a message or communicate with the future so they can learn about the
past. Ancient places may have some lesson that we are suppose to learn from
them so that the past is not repeated or so that the religions or people that
once existed there live for ever. I think that we should not concentrate on
what about the religion we want to teach but what the religion and places
were trying to teach us and their future by creating their beliefs and
magnificent structures.. Well I will elaborate more tomorrow at the chat.. If
no one responds back I will be there at 1pm and 7pm ok..

Hi all, I'm really sorry I didn't post to the list. I didn't realize that
just hitting the reply button only sent to Ms. Sueoka. About the chat
session, I'll be available 2/10 from from 1-2 and 7-8PM in the ITF Chatroom.
If you guys need me in the rooms during the other times, feel free to e-mail
me. But again... I hope you all accept my apologies. My idea is that we
should on our project convey the enduring knowledge of Culture and History
because each and every culture has their unique way of architecture, take
for example the Pyramids of Egypt, and the Taj Mahal also about History
because over time, people evolved different ideas in designing and building
structures... The way we can incorporate technology as Alicia was saying is
to use VR to sorta give the end user a virtual tour of examples of Ancient
to Modern and styles of building, etc. I'll elaborate some more when we're
all in the chat room. Until then, Aloha a hui hou!

MAUREEN: For our project, I think that we should focus on 3 cultures. This
way, we can compare each culture to the next. Also, with a smaller group of
cultures, we have enough time to really study and teach each one. If we had
more than 3, we might end up doing brief summaries which won't teach as
much. As for the "enduring knowledge" part, we could say something about
how each culture tried to make its self unique and intenral by everything we
were talking about---art, music, architecture, and religion.

*For this part, I don't even know if its going to make sense or is even
possible...but I'll give it a try*

With art, we could have an interactive thing where art made by people of a
certain culture is displayed. By clicking over a certain piece, they can
learn about its history. Then, they can use what they just learned to make
their own thing. They can draw from his/her computer and a program can
teach/help them as they go along. *Sort of thinking about the robotics and
cell website we visited, just in a different subject*

With music, we can try to do what (I think it was) New World Symphony did.
Cultures from around the world can play together (which then can go to my
idea of communication) and again we can compare and contrast the history of
their songs, etc.

With architecture, we can have virtual tours of places that are important to
the cultures we are studying. To make it more realistic, tele-immersion can
be used too. The "glove" (sorry, not to familiar with the real names of
everything...hehe) could be used so that viewer can touch or move things
there. (once i read more about this, I can elaborate on it better)

Ok, well I think that explains the basics...hopefully its
understandable...hehe. I'm still not too familiar with the tech that I wrote
about, but I wrote about it anyway so I'm hoping I used it right.
Maureen

LORRAINE: Her computer is broken because her dad tried to install
something...and something went wrong. She may be going somewhere but if she
comes home in time, I can talk to her while we are chatting so she can be a
part of it. Anyway, I called her this morning and she just gave me her
ideas:

1. "Ancient structures are usually influenced by a religion and the art of
its era."

2. "Ancient structures are a form of or contain art that is important to a
religion."

Hi all,
Great to hear from Alicia - and am looking forward to hearing from Daniel,
Lance, Maureen and Lorraine :) I was reading your initial thoughts and
wow, your perpectives - through the Art, Music, Communication,
architecture and evolution would generate interesting dimensions to
Alicia's thoughts...Daniel, your tech perspective - were you thinking
interms of the "information / communication age" and the new level of
consciousness (overhearing some of your conversation last week)???
Sounds like your team has a potentially engaging topic....keep the ideas
pouring - so you will be sure to have something that you can propose
within the next ccouple of days...

Hi Alica...

I commiserate with you on the being sick part...I'm slowly recuperating
but not a happy camper when I'm not up to speed ;> warp, is what I prefer
;>

Thanks for posting...and, sick or not, you're actually the *first* to post
your ideas...hope the rest follow soon so that we can get up to speed on
our project proposal process ;>

*** I love this reversal Alicia...I think you've hit on one of the
qualities of "enduring knowledge"...it's not what "we want to teach" but
what the knowledge is "trying to teach us"....understanding the purpose of
that knowledge and how it fits in with our humanity...beautiful...

all 3 times are okay for me so I will log all the responses and then post
back the one during which we all can make it...for now, let's try to make
either the 1 or the 7 since Alicia can't make the 4 pm...
