Hi guys,
I was at the videoconference today with Dr. Glassner. It was kind of fun,
this was the first time I was in an actual videoconference, other then the
one we had at the our overnighter. I missed the first part, during lunch,
as I was meeting with the others of my group. But I was there during 4th
period. Dr. Glassner mostly talked about the importance of stories in
teaching, how it is much easier to understand the taught subject when it
is accompanied by a story. Then he talked about the elements of a good
story - the plot and characters, both of the same significance. The
questions asked by the students were mostly based on computer games, how
the story is related to the games, and whether the games have a story
incorporated in them or not. Dr. Glassner also explained to us his idea
about stretched camera lenses. I thought that was really amazing, and I
suggest you check out his idea. The link is:

The connection was pretty good. We had a good audio all the time, though
we would lose the video sometimes. The videoconference was in G201, Mrs.
Sueoka^Òs room, in the same time we were in the TQ chat, and this really
made it easier, especially if we would have any problems, Dr. Sadagic was
online all the time to help us out.
Have fun and good luck with your project proposals,
Nita Gojani

Subject: VideoConference Reflections et al...
Hi Nita and all...
Thanks for a great reflection Nita...and thanks to Mr. Saki and Mr. Hale
for all the exhaustive and exhausting ;> testing and troubleshooting that
has gone on these past few weeks to make today's conference such a
success!!!
To the other videoconference participants...Nita has given us a pretty
good idea of the "themes" of Dr. Glassner's presentation and some of the
questions that our team asked....
So, why don't you guys add to her reflection by sharing how you think Dr.
Glassner's presentation is significant for us...how it relates to your
team plans and project...
And...now that we've got the system working, you may think about
conferences you might like to schedule as a team...with Dr. Sadagic or
with other project sites...
Nita and the other participants today did a great job of prepping for the
conference...they had visited Dr. Glassner's pages and were thus able to
make optimum use of the time and the tech in our session...And Alicia did
a great job of hooking us up via the Gateway at OSU! and Shinji, working
with the mic and the "mute" function on the controls :)

Subject: Extending the Reflection
(*Thats for filling us in on the rest on the conference Nita*)
Well to extend her reflection to how I think Dr. Glassner's
videoconference with us relates to my teams project. I enjoyed how Dr.
Glassner related stories to how we remember lessons. I thought this
pertained to my team's project a lot because we were focusing on how
cultures use different things to pass on their legacy. One way was to use
stories to help make things easier to remember. This was interesting
because he showed us how lessons are taught through stories such as "slow
and steady wins the race", and "Life is like a bowl of Cherries". He
describe that facts weren't as easy to remember and how they were boring.
I wish I had been able to see the rest of the conference, but during the
beginning Dr. Glassner describe the purpose of stories and why we tell
them instead of facts. He showed us through a story development how we
can control the image someone has of a story.
Well I hope this helps for those who missed certain parts.
See you guys,
Alicia Crampton
