JumpStart Junior 2005 -- Extending our MeneMAC Community
led by MeneMAC c/o 2008!

Carrying on the JumpStart tradition, the sophomore class of 2008 planned and conducted training for our newest members of the learning center. Just as they had been mentored a year ago, our "vets" (they love the new designation!) started with icebreakers to help everyone get to know each other. Using a ball of yarn the newbies and vets made connections, both literal and figurative, as they shared their reasons for joining the learning center.

More MeneMAC tradition--the dreaded KNOT GAME! Because the group was so large, the mentors divided them in two and proceeded with a team competition variation on the human tangle. Can you guess which was our winning team?

Once everyone was feeling comfortable, the mentors introduced the main activity for the day--Video Charades--a kind of mini media madness. Each team of 4-5 students had to portray a randomly assigned TV show--from concept to dub out in two hours!

Newbies were on camera and on Final Cut and mentors had to be "hands off" guides in the process. Midway through production everyone took a break for much needed refreshments! After pizza and soda, sushi and brownies, cookies and lollipops, teams were ready to finish the job. Well, almost. Some teams still need to do finishing touches when we return after the weekend. Then the whole crew will have a screening party at lunch!

Special thanks to our MeneMAC parents who helped with the refreshments: Sharlene's mom, who picked up the pizzas; Chelsey's mom, who helped with the ordering and brought brownies; Brie's mom, who provided the ono sushi; Sierra's mom, who sent us cookies and candy; Sarah's and Kristen's families for the cooler and ice for our drinks! Couldn't have done it without you guys!!!
