Mega Conference 2005
12-Hour Videoconference with the World -- May 19, 2005
 |
Early in the morning of May 19, 2005...VERY early in the morning...12 AM to be exact...eight intrepid freshmen from MeneMAC's class of '08 hauled their pillows and sleeping bags, spam musubi and hot chocolate to the MOHS library to participate in MegaConference Junior, 2005.
For the rest of the world, spam musubi is a wonderful Hawaii snack containing spam seasoned with teriyaki sauce and rice and wrapped in nori or dried seaweed!
We are grateful to all of our patient parents who stayed up late to transport us and supply us with snacks, to tbe library staff who allowed us to use the facilities, to our tech team of Gerald Saki and Lance Kiyabu for setting up the conferencing equipment, and to Darrel Galera, our school principal, who opened the library for us at midnight to ensure that we had a safe and successful experience!

It was truly exciting to see and hear all of the sites come online at 1:00 am, Hawaii time! And, as you can see, our crew is pretty wide awake at this point. Besides prepping for our part of the presentation, however, the students also needed to study for final exams as May 19 marked the first day of finals for Moanalua.

As the night wore on, the crew got sleepier and sleepier. Finally, at just about daybreak, they gave in and nestled into their pillows and blankets for a short nap before the rest of the world would awaken and arrive at school!
Thank you to the organizers of MegaConference Junior 2005! Special thanks to Kim Breuninger and Jennifer MacDougal for their support throughout our preparation, to Kathy Kraemer, our "VJ Commander In-Chief," for her help and encouragement, and special, special thanks to Arif Khan who tirelessly and patiently helped to see us through all of the problems and troubleshooting in our conference rehearsals and connection!!!
