Introducing the Molokai Art and Memory Crew!!!
Mr. Buchalter's Fine Arts/Digital Media Class from Molokai High School

Molokai students wave to their online audience from Texas, as they watch the presentation from Osaka, Japan and Moanalua, Hawaii. Molokai did a great job of opening the program for us...they shared personal experiences with conflict and artistic expression, as well as their understanding of how changing attitudes in society have affected the freedom of artistic expression in response to war.

Moanalua presentation hosts, Melissa Cantillo and Irene Pasion introduce the different phases of our Art and Memory project. Students listen to a survivor of WWII, speaking from Sidney, Texas, and later write their reflections on the overall project and videoconference.

Moanalua students, Megan Shiraishi, Nico Valenzuela, and Daniel Ichiyama share their orginal poetry and project reflections with the conference audience. After our hosts read the reflections from our Osaka partners, they closed our presentation with these words:

"And now, to again echo the words of the students from Osaka: Thank you for letting us share pieces of art that are a part of our history, in memory of all those from all countries who perish in war. We hope by exchanging ideas, we will be able to help each other's countries to prevent war in our generation.

Sayonara, Aloha, Ahui hou-until we meet again!"
