First Quarter

Wow, first quarter is coming to an end already. :[

For English, we have done various things to improve our writing skills. We were required to write “I Wonders”, write answering prompts, etc. We also practiced our grading, or assessment. We would assess writings by other people, usually our peers, but we always assessed pieces written by ourselves.

Throughout the quarter, we strongly focused on six traits; ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. Out of those six, we assessed ourselves on 4 of them; ideas, organization, voice, and word choice.

The goal that I had set for myself was to better improve my writings in which my ideas are strongly supported with strong facts and details. I tried to better plan my writing before I actually write. For example, I would list down my ideas or plot it out on a web. I believe I am a good writer, but most of the time, I am too lazy to show it. I want to get over it and be less lazy. Being less lazy would really help me with my writing.

This past quarter, I truly believe that I have met my goal. I am better at supporting my ideas with great detail. I can easily describe something with specific details now. This class has taught me not to use general ideas, and that I should always be specific. The things we did in class really helped for the better. I was never that good in writing with specific details. This quarter, specific details were strictly looked at. That really helped me alot. Mrs. Sueoka would say "Say it, prove it". That phrase has found a place in my head and will be there for a long time. Knwoing this would always help me improve my writing.
