First Quarter
Social Studies...
In Social Studies, we learned how westerners deeply influenced Hawaiians, causing them to change. We also do weekly Current Events.
In the first quarter, we mainly focused on how Hawaii changed due to western contact. Before contact, the Hawaiian people lived amongst each other with Aloha, basically meaning love, unconditional love. Not just love between people but love especially between the land, the wind, rain, rocks and the ocean. The Hawaiians were fine, living together in peace and harmony. Captain Cook’s arrival made Hawaii famous in which it brought more merchants and traders to the islands. This affected Hawaii both ways, good and bad. The foreigners deeply influenced the Hawaiian people causing Hawaii to rapidly change.
We also worked on Current Events which we did weekly. We did this as a way of being informed with the right facts. Doing this, we are better aware of what goes on in the community. This is a great way to also inform others through our oral reports.
