For the first quarter in this class, I was taught about Hawaii before and after Captain Cook arrived. I learned about how the Hawaiians felt about land and how they governed and fed themselves before Western Contact. I also learned about how Hawaii's traditions changed after Captain Cook arrived. I noticed how each change made Hawaii more and more under Western influence. Each one contributed to how Hawaii is today. What I liked most about this class so far was seeing how Hawaii changed so much throughout a small period of time, and how their original customs slowly disappeared. For the second quarter, I hope to learn about what the Hawaiians had to face before and after the annexation.
