"After participating in ECELL 2000 and 2001, I have seen how technology enriches the curriculum and motivates students to learn. It is a wonderful tool and I would love to be a 'pioneer' in this new way of teaching and learning." Inquiry area: "How can I use technology to promote independent learning?" or "How can technology make teaching, learning, and assessing more meaningful for students?" I Spy Adventures

"Technology needs to be a tool that students can use to solve problems and make informed decisions. It is today's society that turns to the children to better understand the operations of computers....We need to make technology a tool for productivity, to increase education and learning experiences to a level that draws students closer to the current global society. "All teachers understand the importance of educating every student, but with a growing diverse population, and an expanding classroom, teachers need meaningful strategies to teach and assess individual student learning. To prepare today's students for tomorrow's society, teachers must anticipate the changing culture and incorporate meaningful instruction to enlighten the new generation of leaders.

"The area of inquiry that I hope to pursue through the TLCF Program is 'How can I incorporate technology as a tool in standards based learning and authentic assessment?' I feel that the current challenge of all educators across the nation is how to best address the standards in our classroom. "For world language educators, most of the standards are tied directly to authentic assessment. However, since often the target language speakers may be half a world away, the incorporation of technology seems like the natural answer to our dilemma. Modern technology makes it possible for our students to utilize sources like the internet, e-mail correspondence, and teleconferencing to make our in-class activities authentic communicative experiences. However, how to harness and best utilize this technlogy is to address the standards is my goal for the coming year." Who Am I?

"I am interested in applying for this grant in hopes to expand my limited curriculum in technology to various areas of science. I am in pursuit to find other ways to use computers in my class and this grant will lead me to exciting ideas and make my teaching much more productive. There are unlimited approaches to the usage of technology and I hope to not pass any opportunity to learn something new that will enhance my teaching abilities. "My professional development inquiry leads me to a goal of placing my entire curriculum online for ease of use for my students, as well as myself. Most students have computers at home and the trend seems to be moving toward distance learning. I would like to be able to communicate with my students in a wider sense and hold them more accountable for material through the use of the Internet." Project Eco-Hawaii

"I want to participate in the Moanalua Complex TLCF Program because I'd like to learn about how I could integrate technology in standards based lessons. I would like to learn how to use other applications/programs besides word processing and paint/draw. I am somewhat computer literate and if I broaden my experiences in technology, I would be able to help my students/colleagues use various technology tools.
Inquiry area: "How can I use technology for assessment in standards based learning? I use word processing products as assessments for learning already. What other multiple intelligence products could students produce using technology?" Mrs. Takiguchi's Class Web Page

"Charles Darwin concluded that it is not the strongest, the biggest, or the fastest that survives; it is the one that can adapt to change that ultimately perseveres. This is the information age and it is those who can quickly access and assimilate information that will survive and prosper. "My goal as a teacher is to better prepare my students for the world that awaits them. Information will always change, but the process of using that information, the thinking and development of approaches to solve problems are still constants. "In the world that we live in today we have access to real time information. Be it weather, stocks, or shipping of cargo, we now have up to the moment information. The students and teahers need to know how to use this type of information to gain abetter understanding of the world."
